Tag Rugby

P2/3 have really enjoyed their 4 week block of tag rugby. Everyone thought it was great fun playing outside and getting very muddy!
They worked on improving their passing and receiving skills,  dodging and working in a team.

Investigating the Rainforest

P2/3 have had their detective hats on and have been busy investigating the 4 layers of the rainforest. They have also been learning about the huge variety of animals that live in each layer.

We were very lucky to have a special visitor who came in to share their experience of trekking through a rainforest in Peru. We had lots of questions  to ask and were extremely excited we got to meet an adventurer!

Pen Pals

We had a very excited class on Thursday when our new Pen Pal letters arrived in the post. We have teamed up with a P2/3 class from the Isle of Lewis and will get to know our new friends over the next few months whilst developing our letter writing skills.

Term 3!

January is almost at an end and P2/3 have been very busy this month. Here are a few things we have been doing in class.

We have been investigating what objects and materials are conductors and insulators of electricity. We all had great fun testing a huge variety of objects found in the classroom. By the end of the lesson the boys and girls were able to successfully predict if they thought the object would conduct or insulate electricity.

As part of the Road Safety week the class conducted a survey to find out how they all traveled to school. They then used the information they gathered to make a pictograph.

We joined our reading buddies from P3/4S to share our Library Bag Designs that are being submitted into the Kirkwall Library for their competition at the end of this month.
Keep your fingers crossed for us!

P3 have been weighing objects and learning to use grams and kilograms.

Term 2 Catch Up!

Children in Need 2014. Sensational Superheros P2/3!

The class went on an electricity hunt around the school to see if they could find at least 4 things that used electricity. The boys and girls were very good at this and came back with lots of suggestions.

P2/3 used Duplo models to show off their estimating and measuring skills.

The class had great fun learning how to make circuits. They even helped to give Rudolph his shiny nose just in time for Christmas!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas dinner and the surprise pudding was a great treat!

Christmas Service at St Magnus Cathedral. A great performance by all and so lovely to see the whole class in their school colours.

Smoothie Fun

Today as part of P2/3's Food and Nutrition topic the class were learning how to prepare healthy food and drinks. They worked extremely well with their talking partner to plan what fruits they wanted to use to make a smoothie. Each pair could choose 3 fruits from the list of bananas, mango, apple, raspberries, blueberries and pineapple. Then, they had to decide if they wanted to add yoghurt or orange juice to their mix.  In the end every group ended up making a different type of smoothie without even trying! We were all very interested in what lovely colours the smoothies turned when the fruit got whizzed up in the blender. We had great fun making and trying our very simple, healthy drinks.

P2/3's Yurt

The boys and girls have been working hard since the start of term planning, organising and doing a lot of problem solving to create their class yurt. They discovered that designing and building a yurt was not as easy as they had anticipated and agreeing on and choosing the materials that were available took some time. The class enjoyed the challenge and came up with great practical solutions throughout. It has been a very rewarding experience for everyone involved and we now have a fun place to play and do activities in.

Primary 2/3 would like to say a huge thank you to Jim and Micheal for their time and help!
